Wood decks and fences across Greater Clark County grow algae and mildew within months of installation. The growth makes surfaces slippery and breaks down wood fibers over time. Composite decks don't rot, but they still grow algae in shaded areas and need cleaning to prevent staining. AWP Exterior Cleaning cleans wood with low-pressure soft washing or controlled-pressure rinsing depending on the wood type and age.

Pressure that's too high splinters cedar, lifts grain on fir, and damages old or weathered wood. Composite decking can handle higher pressure, but the crew still avoids the highest settings to prevent surface etching. If you're planning to stain or seal the deck after cleaning, let them know — they'll apply a wood brightener after washing to neutralize tannins and open the grain for better stain penetration. Brightener is a separate step and adds time, but it's necessary if you want stain to absorb evenly.

Fences get the same treatment as decks. The crew cleans both sides if accessible, and pre-wets plants along the fence line to protect them from cleaning solution. A typical 12x16 deck takes 1–2 hours to clean. Fences are priced per linear foot and take longer depending on height and condition.
